I WAS most interested by your feature (LET, July 9) on 'The Marjorie' at Whalley. My great aunt lived there for some years - certainly throughout my childhood and until my late teens. Her husband farmed the land there. After he died, she moved to Billington - to a terrace just along the road from The Marjorie. She was Rebecca Simpson, husband of Tom. They had no family.
Rebecca's maiden name was Bradley, as was my own. She was the only sister of my grandfather. This is a photograph of me aged three (I'm now 66), taken outside the house with Rebecca behind me.
As children, my sister and I were often taken for days out to The Marjorie. I could wander round the farm land with Tom, or play in the garden overlooking the Calder.
Rebecca worked the dairy, which occupied one end of the house. I remember it being very cold in there, with a flag floor, spotlessly clean. I feel sure that as a child I was told why the house was so named, but, unfortunately, cannot remember now. My older relatives could have known, but have now mostly passed away.
A cousin of my father lives in Kent. Hopefully, I have her current address and intend sending her your story to see if she can come up with anything.
