ORANGE badge holder Fred Holt of Bacup was pipped at the post in his bid to become the UK's top disabled driver.
Fred, 57, who had a multiple heart by-pass operation last year, was a runner-up in the northern finals of the 1997 RAC Response Disabled Driver of the Year competition, at Pudsey, Leeds.
He was among 20 drivers short-listed from the northern half of the United Kingdom.
A former haulage transport manager, Mr Holt had to give up work because of his serious heart problems.
The father of three, who had four heart attacks, braved a multi-heart by-pass operation at the end of last year and was back driving within months.
