A PACKAGE of proposals has been put together in a bid to tempt developers to take on the job of demolishing the unpopular Mill Hill flats.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is hoping to attract building firms by offering for redevelopment the land on which the tower blocks stands.
And the aim is to demolish the run-down tower blocks as soon as possible to make way for a new housing estate. Housing bosses have been moving tenants out of the flats and securing the empty properties to keep out vandals.
The three blocks of flats are due to be completely emptied within the next couple of months.
A planning brief has been drawn up by town hall bosses which will be sent to interested developers.
Several firms have already expressed interest in the project and behind the scene talks have been taking place at the town hall.
The brief gives details of what the council wants to see on the site when the flats are levelled and will be used as guidance for future planning applications.
Developers will be able to build around 50 new homes on the land complete with gardens, landscaping and footpaths as well as a children's play area.
Council bosses are hoping builders will take account of pedestrians in their plans along with design features to help keep intruders and burglars at bay.
The brief will be discussed at a planning sub committee on Thursday.
