BROWSING through the job vacancy pages (LET, July 16), I came across an advertisement by the North British Housing Association for a housing trainee.
In addition to the salary, job description and qualification requirements, the company claims that applications are welcome only from ethnic and black groups and to justify this it is seeking to raise the representation of these groups in its East Lancashire workforce.
Also section 38 (i) of the Race Relations Act 1976 applies. But further down the advertisement North British Housing claims to be an equal opportunities employer, which I find hypocritical.
Anti-racial groups local and national have worked over the years to combat racism and bring racial harmony, but
A job advertisement such as this only fuels racial tension.
