A PETROL bomb was being examined by police after a shocked passer-by stumbled upon it as he walked through a park.
The man found the crude device - a beer bottle stuffed with petrol-soaked rags - behind a meter box in Higher Walton Park near Preston just after 6am on Tuesday July 22.
PC Pam Harrison, of Leyland Police, said the bomb was being checked for finger prints and added: "If someone had thrown a cigarette it could have ignited."
