THE promenade is buzzing with people and music. The new venue at the former railway station and the Empire club will open soon as will the swimming pool at Salt Ayre. The promenade is being completely re-landscaped and the Victoria Pavilion will be open next year. The millions being spent on this district is primarily due to Stanley Henig and his team - their enterprise, dedication and hard work is to be applauded. Some sectors of the Press seem to have become bogged down with trivia such as staff comings and goings at the town hall and councillor allowances. It probably costs Stanley Henig £5,000 in telephone bills! Frankly I just don't give a damn. Objectivity and even-handedness by the local press is generally very good except for Paul Wilkinson in the Citizen, whose orchestrated, vitriolic and personal attacks on Stan Henig make me very suspicious of his true motives. Any credibility of criticism has been lost through his over the top poison pen. Is he working to a different agenda?
Terry Masheder, Morecambe
Thanks for your letter. You obviously have strong views, as do many, regarding the way the council is run. There has been no personal vendetta against Cllr Henig, just a platform for ordinary citizens to express their honest views and opinions. This is the agenda we are working to, though it appears that you feel the council is above criticism. By your own admission you don't give a damn - but others do and your own personal attack on someone willing to air alternative views to your own perhaps speaks volumes about your own objectivity - Ed.
