MUGSHOTS of persistent shoplifters have been sent to town centre stores to help cut down on shop thefts.
The photo albums feature descriptions and details of regular culprits to help store managers spot suspicious activity. Theft cost Preston stores £2 million last year.
More than 40 retailers from the Preston Town Centre Pub-Net have joined the scheme, and will use the radio system to warn other shops of trouble.
Debbie Ryan, manageress of Oasis fashion store, said: "Watching out for shoplifters is a part of our job nowadays. Sometimes situations can get violent and nasty. We need all the help we can get."
