RESIDENTS fighting against a proposed asphalt plant for Bamber Bridge in Preston have welcomed the support of South Ribble councillors.
Locals were delighted after the Development Services Committee unanimously voted against the Tilcon planning application on environmental grounds.
But the site has yet to be inspected by Lancashire County Council who will make the final decision.
South Ribble Council's decision followed a report by Environmental Health Officer Dave Maher who recommended councillors refuse the application on the grounds of odour, dust and noise.
Chairman of the Committee To Stop The Asphalt Plant, Eric Melling, said: "The councillors were 100 per cent behind us. It's now up to Lancashire County Council."
Delegates from County Hall visited the site in Brownedge Road on July 24 at 1.15pm and residents held a simultaneous demonstration. They also held a public meeting on Tuesday.
