A CARRYMAT and a rucksack may seem like unusual presents to give a retiring teacher - but then Margaret Cooper is no ordinary teacher!
For Margaret, 54, is planning to fulfil her lifelong ambition and travel across America on a Greyhound bus when she leaves St Thomas Primary School in Blackburn.
Margaret, of Sunnybower, said: "I have no specific plans yet but that is what I am going to do.
"I suppose these presents are one way of getting me travelling!"
The gifts were a long service award from Lancashire County Council in recognition of her 25 years service as a teacher. Margaret also received a portable television from staff and several presents from the children.
Margaret has taught at St Thomas for 22 years. She said: "I've loved my time here, the staff and the children have been lovely. I've never wanted to leave.
"I'll miss everyone, but I will come back to help out and paint the scenery for them at Christmas."
