THE go-ahead was given for Nelson's new open market.
Burnley's ancient markets charter gave the council the sole right to control any market within a certain radius of the town. Councillors agreed to grant a licence.
The market was planned for the pedestrianised area on Leeds Road and advertisements in local newspapers called for applications for stalls to be submitted.
