YOUNG people in fear of robbery or violence have a new place to turn.
A helpline has been launched across the borough with the help of Greater Manchester Police and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
A freephone helpline has been set up on 0800 614458 for youngsters who have been robbed or fear violence.
The move is just one of many new projects supported by Bury Council's own group to ensure young people's voices are heard - the Youth Issues sub-committee.
The group has just appointed Bury Grammar School pupil Louise Selisny (16) as co-chairman and Elton High pupil Adam Sanderson (15) as co-vice-chairman. They will share the roles with Coun David Neath and Coun Andrea Hughes.
At their latest meeting, funding was agreed for a series of activity days which will include making musical instruments from junk materials.
Louise said young people could get involved by ringing the borough's youth initiative on (0161) 253 6544.
"The sub-committee is always looking to broaden the areas in which it is involved, and our regular meetings are open to any young people who want to come along".
The next meeting will be at Bury Town Hall on Wednesday, September 24.
