VANDALS torched a training building at a road safety centre in the latest of a series of attacks which have forced it to close.
The building at the centre in Ewood, Blackburn, was left gutted and thousands of pounds worth of damage caused in the blaze last night.
The centre, next door to a travellers' site, has been the target of repeated theft and damage.
Three fire crews fought the blaze at the centre, closed by the county council last month because of the trouble.
Sub officer Eric Trotter, of Blackburn fire station, said: "The fire was definitely started deliberately and an investigation will be carried out."
Inspector Les Martin, of Blackburn Police, confirmed that statement.
The building has remained empty since the council closed the centre, home of Lancashire's skid pan, and put it up for sale.
A report to the county council said workmen called out to repair damage had been threatened by people from the camp. Staff and visitors also complained about being intimidated.
The centre has been used by motoring organisations, voluntary groups and county staff since it opened 25 years ago.
Blackburn Road Safety Association was left homeless when it closed.
