REGARDING the fiasco of the tables and chairs near Darwen markets, what a shame we have been deprived of them during the lovely weather - all because of the bloody-minded vindictiveness of Blackburn councillors who never wanted them in the first place.
Now they have decided to charge an exorbitant rent, making it impossible for this trader's business to be viable.
I am an old Darwener who once enjoyed a nice rest and quiet chat with an ice cream on a sunny day on the tables and chairs.
One of the few pleasures we had has been taken away.
With all the publicity about "Blackburn by the Sea" was this facility in Darwen too much to ask?
After all, we do pay the same rates.
