A SERIES of projects designed to improve the environment in Blackburn and Darwen are set to take place over the next 12 months.
The schemes are part of a community action programme being drawn up by the council.
Just under £90,000 has been set aside to fund the schemes included in the action programme.
The aim is to get community groups, residents' associations and schools involved in the project. An anti-litter drive is planned for the coming year and will involve community groups across the borough. An award scheme will be introduced with the aim of encouraging youngsters to take part in the clean-up. The council will also organise rubbish amnesties and provide skips free of charge.
Three new pocket parks are also being planned for Shorey Bank, Darwen, Daisy Lane, Brookhouse and Dickins Street, both Blackburn.
Work will continue on existing pocket parks across Blackburn and Darwen.
A series of general schemes to improve the environment have also been drawn up, including work on land outside Roman Road neighbourhood centre and a play area at Romney Walk, Shadsworth.
The action plan will be discussed at an environment services sub-committee tomorrow.
