BLACKBURN Chamber of Commerce chiefs were inviting High Street retailers to join them.
The cut-price £20 a year retail membership was offered following approaches from a number of stores. The organisation was until then made up mainly of industrialists.
The move aimed to strengthen the position of traditional town centre retailers who faced mounting competition from edge-of-town stores.
