SECURITY camera cover has spread to many new areas of Burnley following the completion of a £356,000 scheme.
It is hoped the second round of the CCTV programme will produce the same dramatic crime-beating success as that in the town centre where camera cover was first introduced.
Schools, railway stations, factories, churches a retail park, health and community centres are included in the latest package, which drew a near £200,000 grant from the Home Office.
Private and public contributions from firms and organisations keen to increase security weighed in with £108,000 towards costs and Burnley Council's Challenge Fund made up the budget with a £55,000 award. The cameras will be linked to the nerve centre of operations, providing 24-hour monitoring.
Town centre camera cover saw a massive drop in crime, creating great demand for similar schemes.
A report to Burnley Council's Urban Regeneration sub-committee shows the CCTV cover has now been extended to the following sites under phase two:
Kingsway, Central and Manchester Road railway stations, Barden sports track, Rosehill junior school, Burnley Wood community centre, Pendle Aeroform and Hargher Clough community centre, Anchor retail park, Burnley College and Towneley, St Hilda's and Ivy Bank High Schools, St James Street and Westgate, St Peter's church and school, St Mary's Church and Anchor Housing, Daneshouse health centre and Smallshaw industrial estate.
