CHRIS Waddle is still undecided whether to make his home debut when Burnley take on Brazilians Gremio at Turf Moor on Thursday night, writes PETER WHITE.
The player-manager is more concerned with giving other members of his squad some match action. But he admitted: "I suppose people would like me to play as it is the first home game since I took over.
"And there must be a strong possibility that I will play at least part of the game.
"But I haven't really decided yet. Hopefully most of the players will get a run out.
"It promises to be an exciting evening, everyone gets excited when you talk about Brazilians."
Gremio come to Turf Moor with a young team, many of them tipped to go on to greater things.
One of their former players, Giovani is currently playing for Barcelona.
Members of the Sao Paolo State League, Gremio were formed as recently as 1976 but they also participate in the National Brazilian Championship and the State Championship, which are run over five months of the season.
"By all accounts, they have done quite well in their own league over the last few years and we will take the game seriously.
"It's not going to be like a normal game against an English club.
"I am sure they will play a lot of free-flowing football, will be technically very good and we will have to make sure that we are not chasing lost causes."
Waddle is also hoping for good news on the injury front.
Several players should have shaken off injury niggles picked up in Northern Ireland to be fit to face the Brazilians.
A new sub-contractor, Romer Electronics, has been engaged to upgrade the public address system at Turf Moor. But, to comply with safety requirements, a temporary system will be set up for this week's two friendlies against Gremio and Manchester City.
Attempted break-ins and vandalism have hit Turf Moor since it was redeveloped so the club are to use their CCTV system 24 hours a day, seven days a week in an attempt to catch the culprits.
A security firm has also been employed and, in due course, the club will employ its own security officers.
