HAVING lived in Shorrock Lane, Blackburn, for more than eight years, I have witnessed several drivers speeding up and down this road.
Residents have long been asking for traffic-calming measures and I couldn't agree more with B Gavin (Letters, July 24) that something should be done.
A 17-year-old boy recently died on the same stretch of Shorrock Lane in which another accident occurred not all that long ago, when a car crashed into the house of a woman with two young children.
Luckily they were unharmed, but we should not have to rely on luck to save our lives. When this accident occurred there was an outcry for traffic-calming measures, yet nothing was done.
It has taken the death of a boy for our demands to be taken seriously and I just hope something is done this time.
If action had been taken when it was originally asked for, Gareth Boast may still be alive today.
When far more road-calming measures have been taken on an apparently less dangerous road such as Devonport Road, it makes me wonder where our priorities lie.
