BLACKBURN Harriers continue to prosper in the Division One North of the McDonald's National Youth Athletes League.
In their fourth meeting at Stockport they placed second to the host club, their third time in the runners-up spot in a consistently successful season.
A feature of the team is the way they cover all the events on the card which is critical in league athletics.
Often this involves athletes tackling events which are quite different from the ones in which they specialise.
Glen Garrett, for instance, not only won the under 17 800 and 1500m, but also took second place in the triple jump.
Rob Barton had a strenuous winning double in the under 15 A 3,000 and 800m, then placed second in the discus. Twin brother Liam won the B 3,000 and also won the B high jump.
Stuart Burrell, also under 15, won the B 100 and 200m and completed a treble by taking the A string hammer. Phil Vickers winning double in the A 100 and 200m in the same age group was made into a 1-2-3 in the long jump.
Still in the same age bracket, David Fraser won the shot, was second in discus and third in javelin and Brad Henderson won the B long jump and was third in B 400m. There were good under 17 performances from Aiden Wignall, second in A high jump, Joe Massey, second in A hammer, and Phil Hall, second in A pole vault and third in A long jump.
Edward Brownlow had seconds in the under 15 A high jump and pole vault and further second spots went to both under 15 relay teams and the under 17 4 X 400 squad.
Ben Clarke was third in the under 17 shot.
Burnley were sixth in their Division Two match at Wakefield.
Athlete of the match award was won for them by Colin Bailey who scored a treble first in the under 15 section. His winning high jump of 1.60 metres actually won for him and he supported it with a personal best 2.30 metres pole and a win in the 80m hurdles.
Adam Davidson was nearly as successful in the same age group where he won the 100 and 200m with good times of 12.2 and 24.6 seconds and was second in the javelin.
In the under 17 group David, the elder of the Bailey brothers, also landed a treble. He won the high jump at 1.74 metres and the pole vault with 2.45 metres, both personal bests, and also took the B hammer.
Gareth Parkin almost emulated that performance by winning both hurdles events, the 400m with 63.1secs and the 100m, 15.7, and placing second in the A long jump.
Christian Green had personal best seconds in the triple jump with 11.00 metres and discus, 28.64.
Andrew Whitehead was third in the under 13 long jump.
Pendle were fifth in this meeting.
In the under 15 section Martin Mellick won the B 100m in 13.5 seconds and the B 400m in 62.0. Mark Robinson won the A 400m, 55.6 secs and was third in A 100m, 13.0. Carl Swire was third in the 1500m, 4mins 56.7secs and the 4 X 100 relay team placed third.
Mark Bentley won the under 17 B javelin with a personal best 29.72 metres and was second in A 400m, 58.7. Carl Jesson won the B 100m, 12.5 and Chris White was second in the A 200m, 24.8, and third in A 100m, 12.1. The under 17 4 X 100 relay team were second and to send the team away happy they won the final event, the under 17 4 X 400, in 4mins 02.8secs.
