A MAN who flung dung at riders when their horses fouled the road outside his home says it was "an act of frustration".

Police were called last week when Mr Steve Ridings donned rubber gloves and threw manure at four riders in Marston Close, Whitefield.

But Mr Ridings claims he was driven to hurl the manure because he is fed up of seeing muck outside his house.

He said: "I know what I did was stupid but I was very frustrated. For the last few years horses have been up and down the street leaving their mess behind.

"It makes a horrible smell and it's not very nice for the children playing outside.

"Riders have been abusive to children who don't move out of the way quickly enough and it seems only a matter of time before there is an accident."

Mr Ridings has contacted the environmental health department, the police and Castlebrook Stables in Unsworth.

He said: "I have been passed from pillar to post but nothing has been done. They said they would try to go a different way, but they are still coming past my house.

"It's illegal for dogs to use the streets as a toilet so why not horses?"

The stables are run by Miss Ashleigh Fitton and her business partner, former Household Cavalry guard, Mr Tony Dampier.

Mr Dampier said: "Since the incident we have been trying to go there less, but we have to go that way to get to the bridle path.

"We don't want to ride on streets but since the increase in roads, the bridle path structure in the area has changed so we are forced on to the roads.

"The only solution is: give us more bridle paths."
