BURNLEY projects are being boosted by £5.7 million in Lottery funding and Burnley Council is offering advice on how to apply for more.
Since the five different Lotteries boards began awarding grants in 1996, Burnley organisations have been promised a total windfall of £5,767,318.
The grants range from the £1.8 Millennium Commission funding for the £3.5 million Forest of Burnley project to £3,000 to part-fund a youth education worker for the Bangladeshi Welfare Association.
Burnley and Pendle Hospice has received £60,000 for building works and a further £391,363 for its Hospice at Home service, which provides care for terminally ill people.
Improvements at Towneley Hall are getting £1 million and Burnley Football Club' sports-for-all project £1.2 million.
"It's encouraging that more community groups are gaining the confidence and knowledge to apply, and, even better, winning funds to help them develop facilities and services for local people,'' said council leader Kath Reade.
"Many groups have received useful help and advice from council staff, in particular from Valerie Mills, our voluntary sector co-ordinator, and Lea Fothergill in the Urban Regeneration Unit.''
Any groups with ideas for funding should contact Lea at Burnley Town Hall on 01282-425011, extension 2147.
