JACK Walker revealed today that Blackburn Rovers' spending is far from over - and manager Roy Hodgson will have all the financial backing he needs to bring in more new players, writes PETER WHITE.
Mr Walker made his intentions crystal clear as Rovers went a step closer to selling another player - Graham Fenton to West Brom - and, of course, face losing England left back Graeme Le Saux.
"Roy knows what he wants, he has a wide knowledge of players and he can get them," said Mr Walker.
"Don't forget, he has only had a limited time to assess the players we already have.
"Since he agreed to join us he has seen tapes of every match but you can't see everything on tapes. He's particularly happy with a number of the players and where we are not happy we are looking for new signings.
"Our eyes are on a European place and we mean to get there.
"It's a fact that if Roy wants two more players, or three more for that matter, he can have them.
"But, obviously, we want top quality players."
So far, Hodgson has brought in five new men, Martin Dahlin, Stephane Henchoz, Anders Andersson, Patrick Valery and John Filan.
Goalkeeper Shay Given made his decision to go last season but four others, Paul Warhurst, Matty Holmes, Niklas Gudmundsson and Nicky Marker have moved out this summer.
Rovers have also granted Le Saux's transfer request, though the price tag of £7.5 million seems to have frightened off potential buyers.
As we exclusively revealed last night, Fenton's £1 million move to West Brom is pending and could be completed in the next 48 hours.
Fenton is set to have talks with the First Division side today or tomorrow and I understand everything else has been agreed between the clubs. Ideally, former Rovers boss Ray Harford, now in charge at the Hawthorns, would like to unveil Fenton on Sunday when they take on Aston Villa in a friendly.
Ex-Villa man Fenton has played for both clubs, as he had a spell on loan with West Brom when he scored three goals in seven games and made himself very popular with their fans.
Mr Walker, meanwhile, is confident that everything is on course for Rovers in the build-up to the new season.
"All the players I have spoken to - and that's a lot of them - are all highly delighted with the way things are going and the feeling is very good," he added.
Rovers are preparing for their final pre-season game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday and striker Martin Dahlin has not yet ruled himself out. Dahlin has been struggling with a calf injury but believes that if he can train fully tomorrow, he could be fit enough to be included on Sunday.
And that could also open the way for him to join up with Sweden for an international against Lithuania on Wednesday.
He has played only once so far since his £2 million transfer from Roma, turning out for around an hour in the game against Hvidovre in Copenhagen.
Kick-off on Sunday is 3pm. Rovers fans can pay on the turnstiles, admission £10 adults, concessions £5.
Latest Double Your Money £500 winner is K Singh (Preston), number 615A.
