IN response to your article 'Landlords welcome war on boozy louts' (LET, July 8), I feel that the laws which are now in place are good enough. The true problem lies with funding for the police.

We are all aware of the large profits made by the breweries and associated businesses. Why can't they contribute to the police budget?

This would pay for overtime for the police, increase manpower for policing of the town centre and enable other officers to be active in other crime areas.

Otherwise, it leads to police officers concentrating their valuable time in the town centre area, while other areas are being subjected to crime.

This practice of paying officers is adopted at football matches. Why isn't it adopted for troubled town centres?
