HOW convenient that Chancellor Gordon Brown should have handed over the powers to raise interest rates to the Bank of England.

Brown and Co thought that they could shirk the responsibility for managing the nation's business affairs. They could see the black clouds on the horizon and, having promised so much in the full knowledge that they could not deliver, could not face the wrath of the people.

But the British public is not that gullible, Mr Brown. We know that, when unemployment starts to rise, business failures rocket, house repossessions edge up again, due to the mortgage rate rises, you'll not be able to point the finger at the Tories.

Get thinking of the excuses, Gordon.
