BLACKPOOL'S amateur dramatics met the crazy world of rock and roll when a pop video was shot in the town starring five local thespians.
Doreen Harberon from South Shore was asked to gather together a group of extras for the day, to appear in a video for top ten band Stretch and Vern.
Doreen said: "I've been involved with The Blackpool Operatic Players and the Poulton Drama Society, so I have a lot of connections with local actors.
"Because of that I am often contacted to organise extras for television companies. But this time it was a little bit different.
"The record company wanted eccentric characters to greet the two pop stars as they entered the town.
"This meant that we had to play a bizarre collection of characters including an aged glamour puss, an over made-up milk-van driver and myself, who played an old lady wearing a flower swimming cap and a swimming costume."
Siobhan Murphy, from Atomic Worx, the company who made the video said: "We wanted characters that expressed the flamboyance of the town.
"We had a great day causing mayhem on Blackpool's promenade. The police came to see what was happening because someone had reported a death on the promenade. It was actually one of our camera men lying on the floor to get a shot!
Stretch and Vern, who dressed up as Rhinestone Cowboys on the day, were promoting their new song Get Up! Go Insane!
Their previous hits include I'm Alive, which reached number three in the charts, taken from Earth Wind and Fire's Boogie Wonderland.
Doreen said: "The crew and band were marvellous, everyone was amazing and made us feel like part of the team.
"The day was a scream, I did nothing but laugh all day. I hope the video and song do really well."
