A NIGHT-time doctors' centre is planned to cover a Leigh Infirmary accident curfew.
Wigan and Bolton Health Authority wants to set-up out of hours GP centres - with one in Leigh - so locals can see a doctor at any time during the night.
The news coincides with approval from the Secretary of State for 10pm-8am shut-down proposals for the minor injuries unit at the infirmary.
Commenting upon the Secretary of State's decision, Health Authority chief executive Mike Ruane said:"The use of the minor injuries service at Leigh Infirmary during night hours has been very low, at a time when other emergency services are under pressure.
"The Authority welcomes the approval of the Secretary of State to the proposed change and intends to ensure the people of Leigh will still be able to see a doctor locally during the night, by developing an out of hours centre in the town."
The Authority says any financial savings arising from the change in hours will be used to fund increased demand for other emergency service by people in the district.
Wigan and Leigh Community Health Council chairman Jean Garlick said:"We shall be in close consultation with the Authority and Trust to ensure any savings go to benefit people from the Leigh area."
