DARWEN have cancelled the contract of their Australian professional Keith Greenbank for "disciplinary reasons" and have started the search for substitutes with seven games still to go in the Vaux Northern League.
Peter Lamster, chairman of the Birch Hall club, announced the news today in a terse statement but refused to disclose further details.
"We have terminated the professional's contract for disciplinary reasons," he said.
"We do not wish to elaborate on that and the reasons will remain confidential between the club and player."
Darwen still hope to finish high enough in the table to qualify for the Lancashire Cup but that could depend on the quality of sub-professionals they can find.
"It won't be an easy task," admitted Mr Lamster who must find a replacement in time for Saturday's home derby against Chorley.
