IT was the old one-two for St Helens racing cyclist Andy Tinsley, when after finishing second to his great rival Gary Adamson, Andy powered to victory in the main event on the Woodvale circuit at Formby on Saturday.
And that win clinched the prestigious season-long Echo Star Trophy series for Andy who rides for New Brighton CC. Racing was held on a windswept course at the airfield and despite being buzzed and 'dive-bombed' by assorted vintage fighter planes and helicopters taking part in the Woodvale Rally, Andy got away in a break of three with 'Addo' (Stretford Wheelers) and Mark Bell (Planet X).
Bell twice tried to shake them off but Tinsley and Adamson refused to panic and reeled in Bell before the final lap of the one hour plus five laps Maghull Travel-sponsored race.
The three then played cat and mouse, jockeying for position on the last circuit and in the final sprint for the line, Andy had too much power in his pedals for the other two.
