SCHOOLGIRL Jennifer Bates got 10 out of 10 in her spelling test. And a pat on the back from Mayor Cllr Ken Pye!
Eleven year-old Jennifer (pictured) wrote to the Mayor asking for a ruling on the spelling of the name 'Catherine' after noticing different signs at the Leigh Road and Oxford Street ends of the Leigh street of that name.
Mayor Pye soon set the wheels in motion and highways experts discovered the old Leigh Road end sign was incorrectly spelt Catharine - and had been for many years.
So the Mayor invited Jennifer round to the street for a christening with a difference and now its a case of Catherine in, Catharine out! PACL591/15
