SUTTON roared to a double success as both sides pulled off victory against Prescot Odyssey.
The firsts were involved in a real cliff-hanger at Burrows Lane, winning with the last pair at the wicket.
Prescot had batted first and thanks to a splendid 63 from Andy Murphy looked set for a big score at 80-3.
However, the middle order were bogged down by Suttons accurate bowling and keen fielding, and when Steve Brimelow joined the attack he destroyed the P&O later order with a 6-42 return which left the home side in tatters at 120 all out.
Andy Brogan earlier picked up both P&O openers with a hostile burst but Suttons' top man was Ray Foster who bowled unchanged throughout to record 2-41 from a club record 28 overs.
With only 121 to win Sutton were confident and a positive opening stand of 60 by Dave Hodgson and John Lawton seemed to confirm this.
However, Hodgson was fooled by McCombs spin for 34 and when the same bowler picked up Lawton for 27 the Prescot side came to life and pressurised Sutton into a collapse.
McComb and Alan Joliffe picked up wicket after wicket assisted by some fine stumpings by Jinks until at 106-9 the game looked over for Sutton.
Bowling hero Foster joined Ian Greener at the crease and Greener cracked three excellent boundaries to win the game for Sutton at 121-9.
The Sutton seconds, and veteran Stu Rimmer in particular, were too good for the P&O seconds at New Street.
Rimmer bowled beautifully to shoot out the visitors with a five-wicket haul, the reliable Phil Jukes picking up four more victims at the other end.
A wonderful catch behind the stumps by junior keeper Darren Hockenhull capped a fine display as Prescot subsided to 71 all out.
Rimmer was equally at home with the bat and reduced the other batsmen to spectators as he slammed 52 not out to ensure a maximum points day for the Sutton club.
To complete the week the under 15's had a fine win over St Helens Recs under 15 side. Recs were all out 59 as Matty Lea (4-15) and Gareth Powell (4-10) got to work.
Sutton's fielding was marvellous as Carl Gavin pulled off three sensational catches and Darren Dugdale an absolute beauty.
Wicket-keeper/batsman Darren Hockenhull then hit an elegant 27 to put Sutton on their way and the win was cemented by good knocks from Ste Moss and Karl Pennington.
