A BUS driver from St Helens suffered a fractured cheekbone after being attacked by two men late on Friday evening, August 1.
The attack took place at the Aigburth terminus at about 11.25pm as the 49-year-old driver was preparing for his final trip of the night to Old Swan.
After going to the back of bus to change the destination board, the driver heard the doors open and two men, whom he had noticed at the bus stop earlier, got on. The driver then went to the front of the bus to challenge the men but was struck on the face by an object which the police believe to be an iron bar.
The men ran off empty-handed and the driver was later taken to Whiston Hospital where he was treated for a fractured cheekbone, severe swelling and shock.
Both attackers were aged between 18 and 20 and wearing baseball caps, one was white and the other of mixed race.
POLICE are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to contact them on 0151 777 5051.
