RAMSBOTTOM professional Chris Harris's undoubted all-round class came to the fore once again at the weekend as the the Acre Bottom side crushed Colne in the LANCASHIRE LEAGUE.
The talented Kiwi took 4 for 41 in a miserly 22 over spell and, aided by youngster Chris Hall (4 for 38), reduced the visitors to a gettable 116 all out in 43.3 overs.
That total was never going to be sufficient, especially with Harris in superb batting form.
With openers Ian Bell and Chris Hall both back in the pavilion without reaching double figures Harris took it upon himself to take control and blasted an unbeaten 70 to see the Rams home with eight wickets in hand.
Another man among the runs was Woodbank's Neil Ridehaugh whose 84 was instrumental in earning his side a four point haul from their LANCASHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE clash at Woodhouses.
Along with Ridehaugh's knock useful contributions from Neil Holder (58) and an unbeaten 40 from Chris Humphreys set the home side a target of 204 for 5.
Wayne Griffiths' 3 for 34 was the pick as all five Woodbank bowlers got themselves among the wickets and the home side's reply fizzled out for 159.
Prestwich slid to a disappointing defeat when fourth-placed Denton were the visitors to Heys Road but it could have been far worse if not for a fighting display from Martin Hegg.
Chasing a total of 152 and with the score on 118 for 9 Hegg hit 42, including two sixes and four fours off the bowling of professional Steve O'Shaughnessy, before the paid man finally removed his leg stump with Prestwich ten runs short of victory.
Werneth professional Robert Kennedy did a real assassination job on Radcliffe in the CENTRAL LANCASHIRE LEAGUE!
Kennedy took seven scalps for a cost of only 31 runs as the Racecourse side were once again fell by the wayside in the batting stakes.
In pursuit of a Werneth total of 180 for 5 Radcliffe's only resistance came from recently re-signed professional Peter Skuse who hit 42 of his side's 92 all out reply.
Stand's recent run of good form came to an end at Hamilton Road when Stockport were the visitors.
Aussie professional Mike Warden helped himself to five wickets but the visitors still made 188 before they were bowled out with one ball remaining.
In a dismal day for the home batsmen only Warden and Lee Kenny made it to double figures as Stockport's Mark Middleton ripped through the order to finish with terrific figures of 7 for 29 and reduce Stand to 89 all out.
To round of a bad day for all the local CLL teams Unsworth went down at second-placed Middleton. Mark Manley hit 52 of their 138 for 8 score a total that proved far too little to stretch the high-flyers who raced to a seven wicket triumph with ease.
In the BOLTON LEAGUE Greenmount travelled to league leaders Tonge and returned home with just two points for their exertions.
Without Australian Andy Downton's innings of 54 and skipper Gary Chadwick's 32 their total would have looked sick indeed as a steady procession of underachieving batsmen returned to the pavilion.
In reply Tonge were made to work hard for their victory as Mark Stewart toiled economically, but without a wicket, for 21 overs, Downton picked up 2 for 36 and Andy Sidley 1 for 30 and it took the table toppers until the penultimate over before they overhauled Greenmount's 142 for 9.
Elton had to settle for a draw in their BOLTON ASSOCIATION clash with Daisy Hill.
Gary Stansfield led the scoring for the Leigh Laners with 45 as they ran up a total of 171 all out, however the Westhoughton strugglers hung on for a draw at 126 for 8 with the bowling plaudits going to Richard Ainsworth who took 4 for 21.
Walshaw, at home to Spring View, went down to a 41-run defeat despite a splendid bowling performance from Simon Marsh.
The Sycamore Road all-rounder took 4 for 22 from his 12 overs as the Wigan club posted a total of 146 for 9 from their 48 overs, mainly thanks to their professional Neil Bannister who hit 73.
It was a score that proved too much for the local side and, with only Mike Goddard, Guy Garnett and Charles Dagnall reaching the twenties, they fell well short of what was required, sliding to 105 all out.
MANCHESTER ASSOCIATION cup kings Bury couldn't call their knockout form to hand in the league when they took on Wythenshawe at Radcliffe Road.
And they found the South Manchester club's Jimmy Wisniewski in terrific form as he blasted an unbeaten 100 not out, the mainstay of a 222 for 3 total.
Once again Bury skipper Nick Kennedy (69 not out) proved his worth with the bat but he received little support and the Sports Club side had to settle for a losing draw, finishing on 153 for 6.
Brooksbottoms were another local club on the end of a fine batting performance.
They travelled to Flixton who had an innings of 122 not out from Mike King to thank for their 231 for 6.
Thirty-somethings Mark Churchill, Nigel Hoyle and Dave Brown led the way for Brox, whose reply amounted to 182 for 8 and frustrated the home side for a draw.
Edenfield entertained Great Harwood and went down to a narrow RIBBLESDALE LEAGUE defeat.
A useful first wicket stand of 42 was squandered when wickets fell regularly following John Kershaw's dismissal with the score on 61 and they finished on 141 all out.
That total looked to have been enough when they had the visitors rocking on 115 for 7 but they steadied the ship and picked up the winning runs from the first ball of the final over for the loss of eight wickets.
