HOW far away from Bury could you get without a penny to your name?
Well, that's the question being asked by Cancer Research Campaign organisers who are looking for teams of four to help boost funds by taking part in The Great Escape Challenge planned for September 27.
Teams must escape from the watchful eye of the statue of Sir Robert Peel in Market Place, Bury, and during the next eight hours, using only their wits, must head as far from the town as possible.
Apart from a nominal amount of cash for such items as drinks and food, the team can't spend any money on transport.
In previous events held in other parts of the country, teams have managed to get as far away as Austria and Germany.
The team that puts the greatest distance between themselves and Bury will win a trophy and there will also be prizes for the most sponsorship and best fancy dress. There's a £10 entry fee per team.
Mr Mike Davis, area fund-raiser for the Cancer Research Campaign, said: "It's amazing how resourceful people become when they're up against the clock. Teams can arrange their escape routes well in advance but they can't be devious. It is against the rules to have your family and friends drive you."
All the money raised from the event will go towards vital cancer research.
Anyone interested in registering a team in the event should contact Mr Davis on 0161 793 1313.
