AN ELDERLY nursing home resident who became well known for her night-time "wanderings" died after falling at the entrance to her room, an inquest heared.
Alzheimer's sufferer Isobel Taylor, 71, was found on the floor at Mapleford Nursing Home, Bolton Avenue, Huncoat, just after 3am on April 12.
Care assistants, on their regular three-hour check on residents, noticed a cut to her head and alerted the duty nurse.
Mrs Taylor, born in Londonderry, was given emergency first aid and taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary for treatment. She returned to the home at 6am but deteriorated and died later that day.
Night nurse Carol Meadowcroft said: "I remember hearing a thud in the corridor. Isobel was lying on her back with bed covers tangled around her ankles. When she got back from hospital she sat in the lounge and seemed restless."
Care worker Kay Robinson added: "She had fallen several times in the past. She liked to wander so we had to keep a close check on her."
Mrs Taylor died as a result of a acute subdural haemorrhage and a head injury. Anti-coagulant medication she was taking as a result of a undergoing a heart valve replacement was thought to be a factor.
Deputy coroner John Birch recorded a verdict of accidental death.
