A BOOKIE has been granted consent to start a phone-only service for betting on English soccer on the Internet.
Hyndburn licensing magistrates granted a new bookmaker's permit for the first floor of 46 Abbey Street, Accrington.
Applicant Stephen Fowler, a director of Sports UK Ltd, said all betting would take place over the telephone with people betting using computers.
No customers would be calling in at the premises, he told the bench.
Mr Fowler, from Manchester, said the business hoped to start trading in about two weeks.
Bookmakers William Hill had initially objected to any application for a new betting office licence, but had no objections to a permit for the phone-only bookies.
