A "NEW" album by legendary Blackburn singing star Kathleen Ferrier is outselling Pavarotti.
"Blow The Wind Southerly (Art of Kathleen Ferrier)" has gone straight in at number seven in this week's Classical Cross Over Chart, well ahead of Luciano Pavarotti's "The Voice" at number 18.
Christa Rushton, classical music sales assistant at Reidy's in Blackburn, said: "We've always sold her music in Blackburn but getting to number seven in the national chart and beating the likes of Pavarotti is quite something."
The cross-over chart contains a lot of popular classics and compilation albums as well as soundtrack albums to television series and films like Inspector Morse and The English Patient.
Kathleen, who was born in Higher Walton and grew up in Blackburn, reached the top in the classical and popular music world and was given a CBE in recognition of her talent and achievement.
She died of cancer at the height of her career in 1953 aged just 41.
