A GROUP dedicated to raising funds for the Christie cancer hospital is being set up in Blackburn and Darwen.

Patient Mrs Margaret Massey of Rudyard Drive, Darwen, decided to help after receiving treatment for breast cancer at the Manchester centre.

Her work will form part of the hospital's bid to raise millions of pounds for cancer research.

Mrs Massey said: "They are life-savers really, more people come out cured or helped than die there.

"I believe I should put a little bit back for what they have done for me." Anyone interested in helping can attend a meeting at the Ranken Arms, Hoddlesden, on Monday, August 18, at 7.45pm.
