A GROUND-BREAKING deal between the Shakers and Premiership champions Manchester United will mean Alex Ferguson's stars 'playing' home games at Gigg Lane.

Before Red's fans begin to get worried, that doesn't mean Giggs, Beckham, Neville, Neville et al will be moving wholesale from Stretford but instead Gigg Lane will cater for the Old Trafford overspill.

For £7.50 (£5 concessions) the thousands of United fans who cannot get tickets to watch their heroes will be able to watch home games live on a giant screen erected at the Cemetery End of Gigg Lane.

Bury beat off Lancashire County Cricket Club and a unamed South Manchester venue for the right to screen United's first five home matches.

The first match is against Southampton on August 13 followed by Coventry on August 30, West Ham (Sept 13), Chelsea (Sept 24), and Crystal Palace on October 4.

Tickets are on sale from Gigg Lane and Old Trafford and matchday programmes can be purchased at Bury.

The deal will mean thousands of pounds in extra revenue for the Shakers who, as first revealed in last week's Bury Times, are looking to sell the name Gigg Lane to any commercial interest willing to meet an unspecified asking price.
