A TWO-MONTH chase came to an end yesterday morning (August 7) when Bury agreed terms with Burnley's Peter Swan.
The 30-year-old has cost the Shakers £50,000 and will sign a two-year contract, subject to a medical, sometime today.
Ternent has spent much of the summer tracking the 6' 3" defender who can also turn his hand to playing up front if necessary.
"It has taken a while but the chase is over now and I am delighted," declared Ternent. "I had Peter with me a Hull City and I know he is another no risk signing for this club.
"He can play at the back or up front. Peter is particularly strong in the air, is mobile and has good feet. He is another who is experienced at First Division level and will be a big influence in the dressing room. He is a strong character."
Leeds-born Swan played 49 times for his home town club before moving on to Hull City, Port Vale, Plymouth and Burnley. He scored 24 times in 80 games while with Ternent at Hull.
Swan has done all his pre-season work at Burnley and will slot straight into the Bury squad to face Reading tomorrow.
It is likely that the new boy will be on the bench and could find himself sat next to another player with a Division One pedigree, Gordon Armstrong.
The former Sunderland star played half a game and scored in a 1-1 draw at Witton on Tuesday night. It was his first game back after a minor operation.
Andy Gray will make his league debut for the Shakers and may start in a back five that includes skipper David Pugh at left back.
Ternent is likely to stick with his two man midfield and play all three fit strikers Ronnie Jepson, Tony Battersby and David Johnson.
