BACUP'S new-look market which cost £600,000 to refurbish was officially opened by Rossendale mayor Coun Peter Heyworth during Great British Market Week celebrations.
The new market includes 25 permanent stalls built of natural stone and slate and 38 open stalls.
Money for the scheme came from the European Regional development Fund and Rossendale Council's capital programme.
Coun Heyworth described the new market as a major improvement to the town centre and thanked the traders and residents for their co-operation during building works.
The scheme was designed and supervised by Rossendale Council's architectural services section and the main contractor was Ashton Smethurst Ltd of Middleton.
Bacup Market Traders' Association chairman Kevan Cockshott said traders and customers were happy with the development.
