ELVIS impersonator Steve Preston was left All Shook Up after performing a two-hour show in agony with an injured back.

Steve, 38, was determined not to let down his army of fans who packed King George's Hall, Blackburn, to watch the tribute performance on the anniversary of The King's death.

He had to sing Suspicious Minds through gritted teeth as he swung his hips. And when he got down on one knee for the slower songs, he did not know if he could get back up again.

Recovering at home in Meadows Avenue, Haslingden, Steve said: "It was sheer agony for me but the crowd didn't have a clue about it. I was in so much pain I thought about cancelling it but there were people there from New Zealand and some had come from Scotland and I couldn't let them down.

"It was also a special day for all Elvis fans and you could never stage a concert on the 20th anniversary of his death ever again."

Steve believes he pulled a muscle in his back while lifting some boxes. He has now cancelled all forthcoming gigs, including one in Ireland, while he rests.

He added: "I've had a back problem for years but this one killed me.

"I didn't even have a costume change in the second half and stayed in my Las Vegas suit.

"You have to move around a lot, especially to a song like Suspicious Minds, which I did through gritted teeth as I swayed my hips and swung my arms.

"I'm a bit like a footballer. I can't play unless I'm 100 per cent fit. But this was a special day and the show had to go on."
