BUS company Stagecoach is being urged to provide an employee car park to relieve parking pressure on streets near the Queensgate, Burnley, depot.

Burnley Council has received three petitions about parking problems in the Colne Road area.

One petition signed by 112 residents in the Colne Road and Hind Street area alleges the parking problems are caused by Stagecoach employees.

Supported by the three ward councillors, the petition suggests Stagecoach should provide a car park foremployees.

A report to Thursday's meeting of Burnley planning and environment committee, says the problem has been evident for some years.

It points out the former Burnley and Pendle Joint Transport Company was unwilling to deal with the issue despite being offered a site adjacent to the Disraeli Street recreation area.

Gordon Leighton, head of engineering services, reports: "I have written to the new management at Stagecoach requesting an urgent meeting but I have not received their response.''

In a separate petition, 85 residents are asking for residents only parking on Colne Road and Hind Street.

The third petition is signed by 27 residents in Colne Road and Tennis Street complaining of the enormous difficulties they have in parking.

Sometimes they have no option but to park on Colne Road and are often penalised due to the restrictions.

Mr Leighton reports the restrictions are to ensure the free flow of traffic at an extremely busy junction.
