IN your article (LET, August 14) about access on Buncer Lane, Blackburn, to Witton Park being fenced off at the request of nearby Witton Park High School, Coun John Fairless, chairman of the governors says there was a fence there originally. And that if it had not been restored, the school would have had to fence off its northern perimeter at a cost of £8,000 - which he would much rather have spent on children's education.
What absolute rubbish. A council that is erecting 'metal tree' sculptures and one of a musical note in the town centre must surely be questioned on its sanity. Coun Fairless' comments show the banal attitude of a council well out of touch with the local community.
Give us back our right of way to Buncer Wood without delay.
