A DARWEN man will do his bit for charity later this year, when pulls on his running shoes on to take part in the New York Marathon. Neville Rickard, 28, is a faculty administrator in the Art and Design department at Blackburn College.

He will travel to New York in November, in a bid to raise money for 'Get Kids Going!' - a charity which gives disabled children the chance to compete in a wide variety of sports, by providing them with specially-built sports wheelchairs.

Neville hopes to raise more than £1,000 towards the costs of a new sports wheelchair.

Describing himself as a 'keenish runner,' Neville took the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after seeing an appeal for volunteers in a national newspaper. In preparation for the big event, he will be doing lots of training, and running another marathon in Yorkshire in September.

"It will be a great opportunity to see New York and raise some much needed money for a very worthy charity" said Neville.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Neville, or make a donation to Get Kids Going! can contact Neville on 01254 292271 daytime or 01254 704342 in the evenings.
