STUDENTS and staff at Wigan and Leigh College are celebrating record pass rates in GCE A Level examinations.
They achieved results higher than the national average in a wide range of subjects, including more than 90 per cent in Art and Design, Biology, Economics, English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Theatre Studies.
The figures, say the college, show the overall pass rate by full-time students has risen by three per cent compared with a one per cent national average.
Leading the way at the Leigh Centre in Marshall Street were Andrew Hardie - a stunning five A grades in five subjects - and Graham Brown with four A grades.
Principal Margaret Murdin said: "We are absolutely delighted with this year's results.
"Our students have surpassed the achievements of previous years. The results confirm our status as one of the foremost A Level colleges in the country.
"The results reflect the tremendous hard work and dedication of students and staff at the college."
The college is now expecting a record number of applications for A level courses in the new academic year with the completion of major refurbishment works at the Leigh centre.
