AFTER the previous week's disappointment at Hesketh Bank, Haydock put their title challenge back on track with victory at home to Highfield.
Highfield won the toss and elected to bat on a good-looking Lyme Park track.
But it provided some inconsistent bounce that troubled both sides.
However, the Wigan side started well and the speed of the outfield proved an ally to their batsmen.
But as the innings progressed Haydock's Adrian Barr began to exert a stranglehold.
Bowling unchanged from the park end, he finished with a splendid 9-55 as the innings closed at 137 all out.
After tea, the Haydock batsmen struggled against a tight Highfield attack and wickets began to tumble.
But Barr held the innings together with a good 40. But it was only when he was joined by the experienced Steve Webster (26 not out) that they began to sense victory.
At the fall of Barr Highfield were still in it, but Haydock held their nerve and Webster and Martin Clark steered them to victory.
