A FAMILY of rabbits needed all their lucky feet when they were cruelly thrown from a speeding van.
The ten rabbits, one of which is pregnant, were callously hurled from a transit van in three crisp boxes.
They were discovered in Wesley Street, Oswaldtwistle, and rounded up by disbelieving residents.
Now, after spending a fortnight recovering at an animal shelter, the bunnies are being put up for adoption in the hope caring Citizen readers can come to the rescue.
The rabbits, at the Altham RSPCA shelter in Huncoat, are a variety of colours, and are all adults except for one female.
Inspector Stephen Greenhalgh of the RSPCA said: "Nobody came forward to claim the animals so we have decided to put them up for adoption.
"The incident can only be described as sick and brazen, especially so when you consider it all happened in daytime."
"It was an extremely heartless, cruel attack on defenceless animals.
"If they hadn't been caught by people living on the street they almost certainly would have died.
"Hopefully we can find homes for them now."
The RSPCA is now appealing for witnesses to the July 28 incident who saw two men drive up in a black transit van and throw the boxes out.
Anyone with any information should contact (0990) 555 999. If you want to adopt one of the rabbits call the Altham RSPCA shelter on (01254) 231118.
