THE rector of Preston, Canon Robert Ladds, is to become the next Archdeacon of Lancaster - but he won't be turning his back on the town!
Canon Ladds, 55, has served here for six years and was a leading figure in founding Parish Prospect Preston, a campaign for the development of the ministry in the town centre.
He said: "I hope to work closely with my successor and Parish Prospect Preston. This new role will allow me to work on a wider base with the whole Diocese as well as continuing to work with Preston."
Canon Ladds will move with his wife Roberta to the archdeacon's residence at St Michael's-on-Wyre early next year after his installation at Blackburn Cathedral in December.
He will take on special responsibility for the church's work in the rural areas. His successor is not expected to be named until the end of the year.
