EXPECTANT dog 'Lucky' lived up to her name when a Blackburn woman came to her rescue after being abandoned on the mean streets of Manchester.
Wet, cold and hungry, Lucky had been dumped and left to die by her callous 'owners' in Lees, Greater Manchester.
Pet lover Barbara Hudson took pity on the sodden young bitch and took her back to her Blackburn home to nurse her back to health.
It was only after Barbara arrived home that she discovered she would have more than one canine companion - Lucky was pregnant.
Speaking to the Citizen, Barbara said: "It was only after we had cleaned and fed Lucky that we discovered that she was expecting.
"It was quite a shock when I found out because, after all, she's not much more than a pup herself!
"I cannot understand how anyone could have abandoned such a lovely, loyal dog."
Last month, Lucky gave birth to eight beautiful puppies. Barbara has decided to keep Lucky, but hasn't the room to keep and look after her pups as well, which is why she contacted the Citizen.
"I just want to find caring, loving homes for them," Barbara added.
If you feel you can give a permanent home to one of Lucky's pups call the Citizen newsdesk on 671241.
