A KEEP fit craze is sweeping through the Preston with the launch of new courses for young girls, women and the over 55s.
South Ribble council is aiming to give extra time to women's football after winning £500 funding.
The council hopes to attract more women to the sport with new coaching sessions, leading to the chance of joining local clubs.
The scheme has been funded by the Lancashire Juvenile Liaison Association, part of the Lancashire Police Authority, which aims to encourage sporting activities for the young across the county.
Girls wanting to take part in the football training scheme should contact Suzanne Nicol on 625352.
Meanwhile, Preston Borough Council is offering women the opportunity to get fit with a new low-impact activity scheme.
The eight week course, starting at the end of August, is aimed at women who do not exercise regularly due to work or family commitments - or simply because they have been too lazy!
There will also be an optional fun run at the end of the programme which costs £5 to join and includes T-shirt and fitness information pack.
Anyone wanting to join should ring the Sports Development Team on 704002.
And in yet another scheme, Preston and South Ribble councils are offering the over 55's the opportunity to use their treadmills and exercise bikes at St Thomas' Leisure and Recreation Centre. Anyone wanting to take part should ring 251162.
